Cian sat in the corner of the waiting room, her hands were still shaking and her eyes were swollen and red from all the tears. Her brain involuntarily replayed the moment Wilson turned around and collapsed in front of her like a broken record. She screamed, frantically digging through his pockets for his phone as she held her hand against his, helping him apply pressure to his wound. She recoiled when she saw Ramone’s eyes open, his head turned toward her and a cryptic laughed slipped through his lips. “Look what you’ve done… killed us both.” He coughed and laughed again. She called for help, begged Wilson to keep his eyes open, cradling him in her arms as they closed and his breathing slowed while ignoring Ramone’s pleas for her to be by his side.

Against her better judgment she dialed the number to Wilson’s father and explained that there’d been an accident. Without a single word or question, he hung up on her and made it to the hospital just as the ambulance arrived. She’d been sitting in the same spot in the lobby since Wilson was taken into the emergency room while his father paced the hall just outside of the door.

“Are you ok?” Renee placed her hand on Cian’s knee, rubbing gently as a steady stream of hot tears made its way down her cheeks. She nodded, brushing away her own tears with a damp Kleenex clenched in her hand. She frowned, thoughts of Wilson lying on the ground with blood spewing from his stomach burned in the back of her mind, triggering an uncontrollable sob that she muffled with her hands.
“Why couldn’t you just stay away from my son?!” Claudio’s voice cut through the silence and shook her from her thoughts. “All these years he was fine without you and the very second you pop up he is sent on a roller coaster of emotions, sulking and crying over yo-”

“Clau-” Wilson’s mother Colette tried to quiet him.
“Now he is clinging to life because you got him stabbed!”
“No one told him to show up at their engagement party!” Gary pressed off of the vending machine, moving dangerously close to Claudio. “He got himself stabbed!”
“Oh just like you got yourself fired fifteen years ago? You had your own family at home but couldn’t keep your prick away from my wife, figures she couldn’t decide which one she wanted!” He jerked his head in Cian’s direction.
“Don’t blame me for giving your wife what she wanted! Had you done so, she wouldn’t have needed me!”
Cian dropped her head into her hands and shook it back and forth, desperately trying to drown out the argument that’d quickly converted from the actual events of the night to something that’s happened fifteen years earlier. Her body was beginning to heat up with each insult exchanged. Her head throbbed tremendously as a sick feeling dwelled in the pit of her stomach, making its way through her body like an injected drug.

“Tell the truth Claudio, you had me fired because you feared I’d walk away with your job and your wife!” Cian heard her father shout back.
Claudio threw his head back and chuckled, “The day my wife leaves me for a fucking moolie!”
“WOULD YOU TWO JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Cian sprung from the chair unable to listen to the childish bickering and racial slurs any longer. Her cheeks were flushed a bright pink hue, her eyebrows lowered and almost covered her eyes. “This isn’t about either of you! This is about Wilson! He is in here fighting for his life because he saved me from a man that was using me as a punching bag!” She stumbled over her words with each tear. She was so angry that the room was spinning and everything around her was getting darker. “Everything that has happened has happened because of you! You’re so stuck on the past and bullshit that has nothing to do with Wilson and me that we’re the ones who’ve suffered!”
The room was spinning faster, her body felt as if it were overheating, “Dad you were making me fight for your love and approval like you were some fucking king and like and idiot, I bowed to you! Phaedra and I lost the chance to have a complete family because of you and I hope your sorry ass lives with that guilt everyday!” She swung around to face Wilson’s father, her breathing heavy and voice almost horse, “And you Mr. De Luca, how dare you part your lips to say anything about me when you know nothing! You don’t even know your fucking children! If it weren’t for me, Wilson wouldn’t have anything to do with you! Your fifteen year old runs away from home to get away from you and Giana is walking around angry at the world because you have her by the throat and won’t let her live her own life! It’s easy for you to turn your nose down at me because to you, I’m a moolie, but guess what…” She closed her eyes tight feeling her entire body become numb, “this moolie has your son’s heart and there is nothing you can do or say to change that! If Wilson…” She paused, raising her hand to forehead as she swayed back and forth, “If Wilson…” She repeated, fighting to keep her eyes open. “Cian?” Renee stood, watching Cian fight to keep her balance.
“If…” Her words trailed off and the concerned faces of both Gary and Claudio faded before her.
